Default Perma-Pre Character

I have Played almost all the way through Prophecies (I just got to Droknar's Forge) and have decided to create a permanent pre character, because I like the environment, and I can farm dyes GoTHS etc. I am stuck on which secondary profession to choose though. I am wondering it there are any professions that are really good pre-searing, and if there are any extremely bad ones. Thanks!

Easiest ones I did LDoA on was R, N, Me. You can all do them without picking a secondary permanently.

Mine is an Elementalist with Ranger secondary. Nuker plus pet and Imp as tanks. Aura Restoration and Troll Ungent as great heals. Works like a charm for farming quickly for pre-searing Nick and across the wall in the north.

As to bad pre professions? None really but I think running around killing stuff for Nick as a Warrior would be a lot slower then nuking them quickly but maybe that is just me. Also harder to kill stuff north of the wall where keeping your distance helps. And Necros can be fun but their minions are so slow when you are in a hurry to get your farming done. But again, just me.

Don't know if you know how to get stuff to post but since you seem to just have the one toon I'll assume these pointers might help a little. If not, don't read. :-)

If you sell stuff in pre you need to move the money over in a 2 for 1 deal with someone you trust in post when you get too rich to hold it all.

If you want to get the loot (GoTHs, dyes, special holiday drops etc) to post like me you need to make a mule. Or know someone who can mule it over for you.

To make a mule just select an occupation (any but Mesmer) and run out and do intro quest/reward then run right up the hill and talk to the Lady that gives the Mesmer secondary quest. Run and kill bull in the pond, go back to her and accept Mesmer as secondary and go inside. (Other profession's secondaries take longer since they are further away).

You are now eligible to go to post by just talking to guy inside up at gate. Just make sure you get someone in pre you can trust 100% to mule you up. That means give goods to them you want to take to post from your perma pre then switch to your mule toon and they will give them back to you. Make sure you include at least 50 Gold cause you have to pay that to open storage in post.

Then talk to guy at gate and tell him you decided on your secondary and then talk to the guy next to him on the stand and tell him you are ready to leave pre. Go through the transition stuff to post.

You can now either enter your guild immediately if it has a storage chest in it or run into the ruins of Ascalon to the chest there. Then fork over the 50 gold to open chest, download stuff and delete mule. Wash rinse and repeat as needed. Good luck. It's fun to have a perma pre.

What Primary profession do you want to pick? This will dictate optimal secondaries.

I like to pick necro (have 5 of them right now ) and usually have the monk or ranger secondaries (never make a final pick). Necros make minions which can help in a lot of situations. Other good choices are ele since they have the highest damage output (if memory serves) in pre. Other choices I like are monk (healing is always a good thing and if you find a monk req weapon, does double damage to undead), and ranger (for the extra pet and troll). I have used mesmer as my secondary--and I like it for the conjure phantasm, and healing as well; but I usually wind up not picking it.
I will agree with most others, warrior would probably not be a choice I would make (I am not a melee type of person to begin with and for the examples already given wouldnt choose it).

So I think bsoltan has the best question so far...it does really depend on which profession you are picking as your primary.

I picked Ranger as my primary, my original character is a W/R and that works really well post searing, but I prefer ranger in pre. I was thinking of using warrior as a secondary because frenzy + explosive arrows is just Really, Really good.

My perma-pre is warrior/ranger also. I find it works very well.

I did my LDoA on an E/Me. Makes it really because you can just cast backfire on casters+firestorm and watch them die in 2 seconds. Or empathy on melees/ranged for the same effect

I have several perma-pres. Warrior, using Ranger pet, have not selected the 2nd, just using. Ranger with no 2nd skills, Ranger with monk 2nd, Elementalist with ranger 2nd, Monk with Ele, Warriors with no 2nd. My favorites are the Ranger, no matter the 2nd and the Mo/E.

You guys should take the time to read his posts.

He stated he picked Ranger as his primary.

Warrior is what I have picked as my secondary for my Ranger for the Frenzy effect you mentioned.
Other options would be Ele for the nuking and Monk for the healing.
